How I Got Into Breeding
This is the number 1 question I get from perspective clients, friends and family, is how did I get into breeding? It seems simple enough, but my journey started almost 8 years ago.
First Hike on Camelback!
After living in my home state of New Jersey for what feels like forever, I was ready for a change. I traveled to a few different cities, like Seattle, Phoenix and NYC. Nothing felt more like home than Arizona. After working hard for a year after my initial trip, I made the scary and exciting choice to travel cross country with one of my very best friends, to start my life here. I worked at a car dealership in a very similar position to what I was doing in New Jersey, and enjoyed my first few months.
Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted a dog. Any dog, young, old, big, small, nothing mattered. I got my first dog from my uncle after he was no longer able to care for him, and shortly after my dad picked up a hound after a hurricane. I loved them both dearly, but with me not being in New Jersey anymore, I had no access to (womans) best friend.
I started my search for a dog. I wanted an easy dog that could get along well with others, be easy to care for and had very few health problems. One day I was browsing online and found the cutest little Golden Retriever. I made contact with the breeder and went to see her facilities and hopefully pick out a puppy. Then came Nash.
Baby Nash
I got Nash in April of 2017. He’s my very best friend, and truly the best dog. He lived up to every single expectation and exceeded my wildest dreams. I knew once he grew up a big that eventually I would want to breed him. What I didn’t know is how much of an impact another dog would have on me in the future.
Fast forward to 2024. My husband and I are both self employed from our other businesses, and we decide to bring home a sweet poodle needing a home. She’s 2 years old, lean and lanky, and just the calmest, most lazy girl. Gracie is everything we ever wanted in a dog, and I knew pairing her + Nash together would make some wonderful puppies!
Miss Gracie Girl
Thus, Desert Ridge Doodles was born. Our first litter was born in December of 2024, and we have 1 more on the way due in February. We couldn’t be more excited for this new journey, and to offer some of the best Goldendoodles in Phoenix and Arizona!
